This presentation will discuss fundamentals of how to present research, science and emerging technology to federal agencies and private sector organizations when seeking funding. It will also address RandD fund source identification, development and capture. Participants will gain insights into the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the federal funding landscape.
Eric S. Peterson, Ph.D., is the principal lead for ESP Research, Inc., a 35-year-old consulting firm that has worked with industry and academic organizations worldwide. He has served at the NSF, managing a $26 million program that awarded $6.4 million in new project grants in the areas of separation science and nanotechnology. He also directed NSF’s “Explosives and Related Threats” and “Nuclear Detection” programs. He served in the DOE’s Office of Advanced Manufacturing in 2019. To date, he has won more than $1 billion in competitively awarded RandD funding. He is widely published and holds 25 U.S. patents. Among his many honors are two Idaho National Laboratory Lifetime Achievement awards, the DOE Bright Light Award for best invention over the past 20 years at a DOE Lab and the DOE Energy 2000 Award for the Top Innovation of the year at a DOE Facility.
